5 Best Study Spots In Vancouver

5 Best Study Spots in Vancouver

Ever since the pandemic hit, most of us have been hiding out at home, studying at our desks, our dining tables, and under our duvets. However, if you’re anything like me, you find that your most productive study sessions happen somewhere that you don’t have any distractions. With that in mind, here are Vancouver’s five best study spots for us to look forward to returning to in the future, when it is safe to do so.

Here are The 5 Best study spots in Vancouver

Aperture

Aperture Vancouver

Aperture is particularly cosy corner to study in. It has plenty of plug sockets, huge wooden tables to spread your work out on, and- crucially- a lengthy bagel menu. Most of its other customers will also be on their computers, so it tends to be nice and quiet. It has two locations, each of which has its perks. Its Main Street location has a huge back room, so you’ll tend to find a seat pretty easily, whilst its Broadway spot is very conveniently located near the City Hall Skytrain Station. Either way, you can’t really go wrong with Aperture.

BREKA

Breka Vancouver

The best thing about Breka is that it is open 24/7- even now, mid-pandemic, so it’s the perfect place to study late into the night if you’ve got a deadline looming. Their prices are also very reasonable for Vancouver- the “dulce de leche” doughnut only costs $2 and will definitely change your life. Like Aperture, it has multiple locations, so it should be easy to get to, regardless of where you live in the city. Its only downside is that it can get very busy very quickly. In the Kitsilano location, they ask that you don’t use your computer downstairs, so the fight for seats upstairs can be brutal. If you can find one, though, Breka is the perfect place to study, day or night.

VANCOUVER PUBLIC LIBRARY - CENTRAL

Vancouver Public Library

It is always a good idea to support our local libraries, and this branch of VPL will never let you down. It is huge, so you will never struggle to find a seat, and it has designated ‘Quiet Areas’ for those particularly intense study sessions. You can usually find a plug, and it won’t cost you a cent to sit there, which makes it a great spot to visit regularly.

CAFÉ LOKAL

Cafe Lokal

Café Lokal is one of my favourite spots in Vancouver- it’s always warm inside, their cinnamon buns are incredible, and they always seem to be playing soft French music. What more could you ask for? Its only issue is that they have no plug sockets at all, so you’ll need to make sure that your computer is fully charged in advance. Otherwise, this is a lovely place to settle down for the afternoon.

UBC CAMPUS

Inside of the UBC campus

For those looking to head to UBC campus, I have a few recommendations. It can be notoriously tricky to find a seat in UBC libraries. The basement of the Koerner library tends to be your best bet, as it’s stacked with books, packed with desks, and even has a vending machine for stationery. However, finding a seat in the Irving K Barber can be impossible. I like the Law Library, too, but I’ve heard rumours that they have a name for non-Law students who sneakily study there, so be careful! When in doubt, you should try Great Dane- the best coffee shop on campus. It has a big back room with long tables, so it’s perfect for an extended study session. Hopefully, one of these campus recommendations will be a great fit for you.
