TRACK YOUR STUDY HOURS LIKE A PRO: 8-WEEK STUDY TRACKER SHEET
Keeping track of my study, work, and break hours has always been one of my top strategies for staying on target with my goals. Even with a busy schedule, taking the time to monitor my time—especially time spent working or studying and, just as importantly, taking breaks—helps me stay balanced and motivated.
To keep things fun, I also set weekly goals with rewards for myself, which makes the process a lot more enjoyable. Sometimes the reward is something simple and comforting, like a slice of chocolate cake; other times, it’s a bit bigger, like a new outfit, a movie night, a favorite board game with friends, or even going out dancing.
For those of you working hard through your study hours, I’ve created a new Study Tracker Sheet to help you keep tabs on your progress and keep up the momentum!
Why tracking your study hours matters
Tracking study hours is a powerful way to stay committed to your academic goals, see your progress, and improve your focus. When you take note of each session, it keeps you aware of how much effort you’re actually putting into each subject and reveals where you may need to adjust or refocus. Studies have shown that keeping records helps to develop strong study habits over time and makes it easier to reach goals without feeling overwhelmed.
The Study Tracker Sheet is designed to be easy and flexible. Each tab represents a different subject and can be personalized to match the topics you need to focus on. Here’s how it works:
1. Study Hours Column: This is where you log the hours you spend studying on your own for that topic each day. It’s your independent study time, so whether you’re reading, taking notes, or practicing problems, this is the place to log it.
2. Tutoring Hours Column: This column is dedicated to the hours you spend with a tutor on that topic. We all know that one-on-one support is a great way to build confidence and stay on track with challenging material. Tracking these “assisted study hours” will give you a sense of how much tutoring time you’re putting in versus self-study time.
3. Break-Time Hours Column: Taking breaks is an important part of the learning process—our brains need downtime to recharge. This column is for recording the time you spend not thinking about study, which could include anything from relaxing, hanging out with friends, or doing something creative during your designated study time.
You can find the Study Tracker Sheet here.
Feel free to personalize this tracker to fit your study style. You can add more tabs for additional subjects, change the column names, or even expand the sheet to cover more than eight weeks if needed.
Tracking each of these elements will show you a clear picture of where your time is going, helping you adjust if you’re overloading on one subject or slacking off on another. By maintaining a balance, you’ll reach your goals with less stress and more motivation to keep going!
